How Do I Know if I’m Pregnant?
If you’ve had sexual intercourse since your last period and are experiencing any of the below symptoms, you could be pregnant.
Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of pregnancy:
- Late or Missed Period
- Nausea and/or Vomiting
- Frequent Urination
- Spotting or Cramping
- Unexplained Fatigue
- Feeling Lightheaded or Dizzy
- Food Cravings or Aversions
- Increased Sense of Smell
- Darkening of Nipples
- Sore, Swollen, or Itchy Breasts
If you think you could be pregnant, the first thing you should do is take a pregnancy test. This will allow you to make the next several decisions with purpose. Pregnancy tests detect the presence of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone that is produced by your body when you are pregnant. Some amount of hCG may also be present if you are miscarrying a pregnancy.
We offer free pregnancy testing at our centers. Our tests can detect pregnancy as soon as seven days after conception or 21-24 days after your last menstrual period.
If you have a positive test result at home or at our center, it will be important to medically confirm that you have a viable pregnancy — one that is continuing to grow in the uterus. The limited obstetric ultrasound Lighthouse offers free of charge can help confirm this. Contact us today to schedule a free and confidential appointment.
What Do I Do if I’m Pregnant?
If you are pregnant, you have three options to consider.
1. Parenting – giving birth and raising the child.
We offer free parenting education, baby items, referrals to state programs like WIC, and access to healthcare in preparation for parenthood. We also offer support for pregnant and parenting teens through our YoungLives program. Meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month (October through June) and provide young women with the support, mentoring, and community they need to become the best moms possible. Learn more about YoungLives and sign up today!
2. Abortion – ending the pregnancy
We provide a free ultrasound to confirm a viable pregnancy and estimate how far along you are. Finding out how far along your pregnancy is will determine the type of abortion you can have, which will clarify your options and the related risks. We also provide you with medically accurate information about abortion and your other options to empower you to make an informed decision.
3. Adoption – giving birth and placing your child with someone else to raise
If you are not ready to parent, adoption is a loving option. This gives your child a chance at life with a family who has been praying for them. In most cases, you can get financial assistance for medical and living expenses, along with many other benefits.
