Are There More Options Than Abortion?

If you are not sure that abortion is right for you, there are other options to consider—and valuable support is available as you make this critical decision.

Besides abortion, two options available to you are parenting and adoption. Both options have other important choices for you to consider. Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center, we are here to support and guide you as you explore every possibility. Read on to learn more about what to consider when it comes to parenting and adoption—or contact our center today to find a safe, supportive space to talk and get your questions answered.

Parenting: Can I Do This?

The first question to ask yourself when considering parenting is, Do I want to parent? If you feel even a small desire to parent, it’s important to explore this option fully.

Many women worry about finances, housing, or childcare, but you are not alone. There are resources available to help you succeed as a parent, including parenting classes, financial assistance, and community support programs.

At Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center, we can connect you with the support you need to confidently step into parenting—and we’ll be here alongside you every step of the way. We have a support program for teen moms that offers opportunities to connect with peers facing similar challenges.

Lighthouse is also here to assist you as you consider additional choices about parenting, such as building a healthy support system and communicating effectively with your child’s father. We have men on our staff available to speak with the child’s father if that would be helpful.

Another Option to Consider

If parenting isn’t the right option for you, adoption is another life-giving choice. What many people don’t realize is that adoption is not a one-size-fits-all decision—you have control over the life you want for your child.

There are several types of adoption available:

  • Open Adoption: You can maintain contact with your child and their adoptive family, receiving updates and even having visits if desired.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: You can receive updates through a third party, such as an adoption agency, without direct contact.
  • Closed Adoption: No contact is maintained, and both you and the adoptive family remain anonymous to each other, though you still have the opportunity to select the family you want to raise your child.

With adoption, you have the ability to choose the adoptive parents, set your level of involvement, and make a decision that aligns with your values and comfort level. Adoption is a brave and loving choice that allows you to give your child the best possible future while maintaining control over the process.
