For Guys & Dads

If you think your girlfriend or partner may be pregnant, it is important to understand the ways your life may be affected as well.

At Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center, we recognize that an unplanned pregnancy disrupts your plans, too. We have male staff ready to assist you during this stressful and possibly confusing time.

Lighthouse can help you determine the next steps for your best future. Gathering all the facts is a good place to start. Our centers provide a medical confirmation of pregnancy free of charge, and help you consider the possible consequences of all your pregnancy options.

Ultimately it is the woman’s choice, but it is your responsibility to speak up and be involved in the decision. Before she decides, the best plan means the two of you have decided together.

Please don’t hesitate to text 201-874-1184, email help@lighthouseprc.org or call our nearest center to request an appointment.

Here are some key points to consider:

DO

  • Listen to her. The situation involves more than just you. There are now three lives to think about.
  • Try to stay calm. She needs your support now more than ever. She may be carrying the baby, but you are BOTH parents, and regardless of your relationship in the future, that baby needs you, too.
  • Communicate. Talk not only with each other, but prepare to talk with parents and others close to the situation. Hiding the news from people who can genuinely help you only increases the stress.
  • Gather all the facts. Get all the information and seek wise counsel so you can make the best decision for both of you. Learning more about pregnancy or abortion risks before making your decision may be helpful.
  • Be honest. It is normal to have feelings of anger, frustration and fear. However, it is important to make sure she knows she is not alone in this situation and that you have strong feelings about it.

DON’T

  • Bail. You may be inclined to get out of the relationship and remove yourself from the situation entirely. However, the more you run from this, the harder it can become to think and act clearly.
  • Pressure her. Applying pressure will only push her away, possibly into a regretful situation. You will do well to work together as a team.
  • Forget. You have a very active role in this situation. Listen to input and share your thoughts openly.

Support for Fathers

If your partner is pregnant, the question is not, are you going to be a father, but, what kind of a father will you be? Lighthouse offers one-time and ongoing support for new dads to prepare you to be the best father you can be, while still moving forward with other plans you have.

Whether or not your future plans include the mother of your child, we offer relationship support to strengthen the bond between the two of you, or to improve your communication during this difficult time.

Coming to our center for support also makes you eligible to earn some of the essential items that you will need to care for your newborn.
